Agia Lake

The Lake of Agia is very close to the city of Chania and, together with the surrounding area, consists of 450 acres of protected land. This small lake is home not only to a great diversity of plants living in or close to water, but also to significant species of the Cretan flora and fauna such as rare species of fern and frogs.

The lake is also a natural shelter for many birds, migratory or not.

The ecological importance of this Agia Lake area is also reflected in the fact that there are international treaties concerning its protection and it is part of the Network of Protected Habitats known under the name NATURA 2000 .
